Tenetro is a networked platform base for educational software. It is designed to perform integral networking duties and to act as an interface to the outside world for any level of organization from individuals to Classrooms to larger-scale organizations. User data transmitted securely and stored in a safe remote location. It uses common digital tools, performs secure transactions seamlessly, and makes customers feel comfortable that their data is in competent hands.

From a licensing perspective, Tenetro enables software developers to implement a complete security identification front-end to their software, requiring users to have login identification belonging to an account which is fully paid up. Expiry dates for accounts can be set at an arbitrary time in the future, prompting users to renew their license as the expiry approaches.

The client package exists as a RealBasic class, and has also been ported to C++. There is no complicated interface, and the Tenetro plugin interferes in no way with the use of the base educational software except in case of a failure on the user's part to correctly identify themselves. Three separate pieces of identification are required at various levels of interaction with the system: School/Region, Classroom/Family, Name, and Password. All Tenetro students can share their files with one another.

The software this document describes is currently available at http://tenetro.com. Tenetro.ca is a web portal for all Tenetro software.

Web Portal

The web portal includes a lot of useful information on Tenetro and Sonora, including this document. It also allows users to create accounts, manage their students, and purchase and download the client software.

On the account creation page, new users must provide:
  • School or Region
  • Classroom or Family
  • Teacher or Parent Name
  • Password
  • Valid email address
  • Valid phone number

This information will be kept private. (See our privacy statement.)

Once the account is created, supervisors (teachers, parents or guardians) are free to log in to the Student Manager. There, they may add or remove Students from their Classroom or Family, and change any of their account details. Students cannot use the Tenetro-enabled package until their supervisor has given them a Names and Passwords. Therein lies the strength of the package: Supervisors and students may use the Aspex software obtained from any source (download or CD), but without the pass-codes the software is useless.

The Student Manager is also where supervisors go to see the status of their Tenetro license (ie. expiry dates). Passwords can be auto-generated, and a printable page displayed to allow easy distribution of passwords to Students. This is also where supervisors go to change the options they entered on the account creation page.

All transactions on the web portal are recorded.

Client/Server Architecture

Details of our software are kept private, but all are based on widely recognized industry tools.

Tenetro software packages communicate over either port 7071 or 7072. These ports must be unblocked to allow the programs to function.

File Services

Tenetro offers a secure, intuitive interface for users of any Tenetro enhanced product to save their files securely on our server, and share them with any other use of the Tenetro network.

Students can choose to share their projects with other students, or mark them as hidden files. These will be available only the the Student and his or her Teacher. The Teacher can also write files to her Student's folders.

Tenetro also has an easily-accessible library of sample project files, and a repository which serves as backup for deleted files, in case the are required again. And of course, users always have access to the creative power of all students on the Tenetro system!
